Known by her first name the world over, Chris "Chrissie" Evert is one of the greatest tennis players in the history of the sport and was the sole 1995 inductee into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. By the time she completed a 20-year career in 1989, she had won 157 pro singles titles and more than $8 million in prize money. With a 1,309-146 won-lost record, she has a .899 winning average, the highest in pro history. Her incredible ability to concentrate and focus, combined with her natural athletic talent, made Chris one of the toughest competitors of all-time. Always the ultimate professional, Chris became a role model for a generation of newcomers whom emulated her and her trademark, the two-handed backhand. Chris was No. 1 in the world in 1975-76-77-78-79-80-81-85, and from 1972 through 1989, she was never ranked lower than No. 4. She won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record seven French Opens, six US Opens, three Wimbledon titles and two Australian Opens. She is tied with Martina Navratilova for fourth on the all-time list for Grand Slam singles titles. Chris' consistency in the sport is unsurpassed. She reached the semifinals or better of every Grand Slam she entered from 1971-1983. She won at least one singles title in a Grand Slam tournament for 13 consecutive years, from 1974 through 1986. She won a record 125 successive matches on clay between August of 1973 and May of 1979. No other player in modern times has come close to establishing such a long winning streak on a single surface. Chris, a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida native, is married to former two-time Olympic downhill skier Andy Mill. They have three sons, Alexander James (born 10/12/91), Nicholas Joseph (born 6/8/94), and Colton Jack (born 6/14/96). They have a home in Boca Raton, Florida and a home in Aspen, Colorado. Chris and Andy host the annual Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic in Boca Raton, a fund-raiser that aids in the fight against drug-exposed, abused and neglected children. Chris is also an analyst for NBC-TV.
