“Do you believe in miracles!!” That famous saying is the one Michaels used to describe the United States Olympic Gold Medal Hockey winning performance in 1980. Since then, Michaels has continued to be among the elite in the broadcast industry today. Michaels is also very well known for his coverage of the San Francisco Earthquake in 1989. He was going on the air at Candlestick Park in San Francisco to announce the World Series game between the A's and Giants when the quake struck. For his outstanding work he became only the second sports announcer ever to receive a News Emmy Award. Currently, Michaels is the #1 play-by-play announcer for the tremendously successful Monday Night Football. Throughout Michaels' career he has done a terrific job at numerous sports. Amongst his accolades are: three Winter Olympics, Seven World Series, Six All Star Games, One Stanley Cup, Numerous NCAA Basketball and Football games, San Francisco Giants Baseball and UCLA Basketball. Michaels has also earned many awards, having been named 1991 Sportscaster of the Year by the Washington Journalism Review and 1996 Sportscaster of the Year by the American Sportscasters Association. Michaels owns three Sports Emmy Awards and three National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Awards. Al Michaels is a man who deserves all the respect he garners. He is a legend in the broadcast industry today.
