1997 Ryder Cup Captain, Tom Kite, is one of America's top all-around players and has the skill and experience to win if his putting is on. Since joining the TOUR in 1972, Kite has earned more than $9 million. He has two majors under his belt - the 1989 Players Championship and the 1992 U.S. Open. His most recent victory was at the 1993 Nissan Los Angeles Open.
Kite was born on December 9, 1949, in Austin, Texas. He started playing golf when he was six, and he won his first tournament at age 11. Many attribute his magnanimous character and successful golf career to his years of tutelage under the watchful eye of Harvey Penick.
