Sarah Jessica Parker performed in classical operas and ballets as a kid before donning Annie's red dress on Broadway. She later starred as a high school student in the television sitcom Square Pegs, and broke through on the big screen as the ditzy blonde in L.A. Story. Honeymoon in Vegas highlighted her flair for comedy. She took an off-Broadway turn playing the role of a dog in Sylvia. It's not as ridiculous as it sounds; New York Times critic Vincent Canby raved about her, saying 'Forget Lassie, Lad, Rin Tin Tin, Benji, Asta, and ever-reliable old Nana, I've never seen a dog portrait in films or on the stage that quite matches the truth and wit of Ms. Parker's performance as the part-Lab, part-poodle Sylvia.' Parker's 1996 film efforts included If Lucy Fell, Extreme Measures, The Substance of Fire, Mars Attacks!, and 'Til There Was You. With all that on her plate, combined with the demands of her Broadway appearances in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Once Upon a Mattress, it was no wonder that she rang in the New Year with a bad case of nervous exhaustion. Parker wed longtime companion Matthew Broderick in 1997. The following year witnessed the release of her HBO series, Sex and the City, for which she garnered a 1999 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
