Recognized around the world as a man of deep integrity, Jimmy Carter is an active champion of peace who carries his message across the boundaries of nations and cultures. His accomplishments as the 39th president of the United States include the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, the treaty of peace between Egypt and Israel, the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union, and the establishment of U.S. diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. He is the founder of the Carter Center, a non-profit, non-partisan policy center that brings people and resources together ? to resolve conflict, foster development and fight poverty, hunger and disease. Mr. Carter is involved in many democratic events worldwide and is a regular volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that helps build homes for the needy. He has written 14 books including An Hour Before Daylight: Memories of a Rural Boyhood; Talking Peace; Turning Point: A Candidate, A State and A Nation Come of Age; and The Virtues of Aging.
